After living in the United States for over three years I’ve grown accustom to how different the American lifestyle is compared to how I was raised in Japan. After living in Japan for the majority of my life I can name many new experiences and observations that make life in the United States so different.

The following are 50 things that in my opinion distinguish the American culture. Some of them are due to my culture shock experience or things that may seem ordinary here in the United States, but not so common in other countries around the world. I hope some can relate to these ideas and enjoy seeing how many affect their everyday life!

1. There is always somebody cutting you off without using their blinkers and 85% of the time it’s a Tesla.

2. Weather report sucks and always give the wrong predictions.

3. People love getting wet since they don’t like to use an umbrella on rainy day.

4. Usual Winter outfit in Cali; down jacket, half pants, flip flops.

5. Sunglass are an essential accessory.

6. Talking to strangers is normal.

7. Everywhere you look there’s a Drive-through.

8. Pedestrian is a God (they take sweet ass time to cross the street).
