Procrastination, the habit of waiting till the last moment to do something, is a common phenomenon which happens to everyone. This is present in almost every environment from school, the workplace and even at home. Procrastination is commonly seen among students where they have the time to plan and complete tasks on time, but always find themselves leaving it to the last minute to get the job done. That is the reasons why some professors implement strict grading policies such as a lateness policy that reduce students’ grade if an assignment is turn in late or incomplete. Yet, we still see students procrastinate and disregards the consequences of turning work in late. We generally believe that the habit of procrastination is due to laziness or lack of productivity, however it is more based on one’s emotions and desire to alleviate stress.

In the article, “Why You Procrastinate (It Has Nothing to Do with Self-Control)”, Lieberman, a writer of New York Times, states that procrastination is caused by our emotions, not the lack of productivity. She implies that there is no easy way to address this issue, one cannot simply read books on how to be more productive or create a schedule app. The solution lies within, where it is crucial to focus on managing our emotions in order to avoid procrastination.
